Nam Du is an archipelago of 21 large and small islands, 83 km from the center of Rach Gia city (Kien Giang), which is located in the southeast of Phu Quoc Island. According to many documents, it is unclear the origin of the name Nam Du, but there are information sources that its name comes from Gia Long King, while other sources claim that Nam Du comes from the name “Nam Du” (means the south island). According to local people, Nam Du previously was a pristine archipelago, only the residents of the island live together. In the last few years, the archipelago has been gradually explored and visitors have begun coming.

Currently, to travel to Nam Du island, the only means of vehicles that visitors can use is the train. Depending on the time condition, visitors can come to Rach Gia pier to buy high speed train ticket or regular train ticket. Everyday there are 2 high speed trains to Nam Du at 8:15am and 12:15am. It takes 2 hours for travelling with fare of Vnd210,000. For regular ships, the fare is  100,000 VND per time but take up to 5 hours of travel.

After boarding and heading to Nam Du, visitors should firstly visit Hon Lon. There are now several guesthouses. If the guesthouse is out of the room, guests can contact the local people for accommodation. Travelers rent a motorbike to go sightseeing on the island without having to mortgage any documents. In addition, as well as other uninhabited islands, the island’s electricity and freshwater systems are very limited in use, and visitors are advised to accommodate some difficulties with their arrival. In Nam Du, tourists can visit various beaches for swimming. However, the most beautiful and romantic one is Men beach. With a long, flat white sand that is together with rocky cliffs and coconut trees, visitors can enjoy the area under the blue water, sightseeing, taking pictures, camping and organizing night barbecue party. In addition, Hon Dau and Hon Mau can not be missed when coming to Nam Du island. Hon Dau is relatively large compared to other island, with primary forest accounting for about 90% of the area. Near the shore there are many coral reefs are growing, visitors can use diving glasses to watch the coral and colorful fish flocks.

Hon Mau has 5 beaches around, of which 2 white sand beaches are Chuong and Nam beaches; the remaining 3 beaches: Bac beach, Da Den beach and Da Trang beach. Nam beach is in the front of the island.

Enjoying the seafood on the island is also an interesting experience. Squid, shrimp, crab are very fresh here and the price is also very cheap. If tourists are at home of local people, they could go to the harbor to choose seafood and just bring for the host to process. Otherwise, guests can also enjoy at the beach restaurants.
